Chief of Staff
Ryan is responsible for the oversight of daily operations in the Washington, D.C. and Texas offices, which are located in Arlington and Ennis, TX. He works with the staff to ensure that the goals of the office are in line with those of the Sixth District. Ryan also coordinates the Congressman’s activities and priorities between the Energy and Commerce Committee, Congressional and Campaign offices.
Ryan has been with Congressman Barton since 2002. In addition to serving as Chief of Staff, Ryan has held several positions with Barton including Special Assistant, Political Director and Deputy Chief of Staff. Prior to his time with Barton, Ryan spent four years in the United States Marine Corps and graduated from Texas A&M University.
In addition to serving on the Board of Directors for the Texas State Society, Ryan also organizes the Congressional Baseball Game for Charity, an annual event in which he raises over $400,000 for three local charities in the Washington, DC area – The Washington Literacy Center, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Washington, DC, and the Washington Nationals Dream Foundation. In 2013, he was presented the Champion for Literacy Award for his work on behalf of The Literacy Center.
Senior Policy Advisor
Ann Thomas (AT) Johnston is Senior Policy Advisor and Professional Staff. She divides her time between Rep. Barton’s personal office and the Energy and Commerce Committee.
AT has spent more than 25 years working in the public and private. She was the lead staff on Congressman Barton’s efforts to end the ban on crude oil exports.
Originally from North Carolina, AT graduated from Wake Forest and briefly worked in the private sector before becoming a Senior Legislative Assistant to then Rep. Richard Burr. Since then she has worked in both the private and public sectors including time as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Policy at Department of Energy and Special Assistant to President for Legislative Affairs in the George W. Bush Administration. AT worked the past four years with Rep. Lee Terry of Nebraska in various roles, including Deputy Chief of Staff.
AT lives in Alexandria, Virginia with her husband Murray and their 2 children.
As Rep. Barton's Communications Director, Daniel is in charge of promoting the Congressman's views and initiatives. He handles all press inquiries, helps with the weekly column and the office's e-newsletter. Daniel is also in charge of coordinating Rep. Barton's social media outreach on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
Prior to joining the Barton staff, Daniel worked for several political campaigns and for Congressman Ralph Hall. Daniel is from Fort Worth, TX and graduated from Texas A&M. He also has a Masters from George Mason University.
As Legislative Assistant, Amy is responsible for the Communications and Technology, Foreign Affairs, Intelligence, Armed Services & Veterans Affairs, Transportation, and Telecommunications portfolios.
Amy graduated from Texas A&M in College Station, TX in May 2010 with a double major in International Studies and History and a minor in Russian. She graduated from the George Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University in May 2012 with a master's degree in International Affairs. She joined the Barton staff in 2012.
Legislative Correspondent/Deputy Scheduler
As Legislative Correspondent, Gable assists Congressman Barton by responding to all constituent mail from the district. She also serves as Deputy Scheduler assisting with the Congressman’s meeting requests in Washington D.C.
A constituent from the 6th district of Texas, Gable was born and raised in Waxahachie, Texas. She joined the Barton team in 2014 after graduating from the University of Notre Dame. During college, she worked in a variety political offices including the Office of President George W. Bush, the Houses of Parliament, and State Representative Jim Pitts’ district office.
As Staff Assistant, Nick assists Congressman Barton by working directly with the constituents of the 6th District. He schedules DC visitors' tours, conducts Capitol tours, and oversees the general administration of the office. Nick also assists the legislative staff on projects as needed.
A constituent from the 6th district of Texas, Nick was raised in Arlington, Texas. He joined Congressman Barton in 2015 after graduating from Texas Tech University with Bachelor’s degrees in Political Science and Russian. In college, Nick interned with Congressman Barton, as well as with the U.S. Secret Service.
