I wish the President would've actually held out his hand and offered to cooperate with the new Congress, instead of trying to confront the new Congress.

Rep. Barton (Arlington/Ennis) released the following video statement after attending the President Obama’s State of the Union Address on Tuesday night:

Here are some highlights of the video statement:

“President Obama tonight gave more of a political speech to the Democrat base. He made no attempt to reach out to the new Republican majority in the House and the Senate. I think that is both a political mistake and a policy mistake. There wasn’t much in the speech that I could agree with.”

“I do agree that we need to fight – and he didn’t call it this – ‘radical Islamic terrorism.’ I will vote for a resolution of force against ISIS if it comes up on the House floor because I believe we should fight terrorism everywhere it exists in the world.”

“The President took credit for oil and gas production being at an all time high. It’s true the US is #1 in the world, but this isn’t because of the President’s policies – it is in spite of his policies.”
“All in all, the President’s speech was good political theatre for the left, but it is not a basis on which to build a bipartisan coalition. I wish the President would’ve actually held out his hand and offered to cooperate with the new Congress, instead of trying to confront the new Congress.”
