Congressman Joe Barton is currently accepting applications for internships in his Washington, D.C. office for the 2016 spring semester, starting in January. This is a great opportunity for college students, recent graduates and others who are interested in an insider’s view of the legislative process.
Read about the highlights of working in a congressional office from our fall 2015 interns:
“There is truly no better way to understand the legislative process than by experiencing it firsthand through a congressional internship in Washington, D.C. My favorite part about interning in Congressman Barton’s office is the broad exposure we get to Energy and Commerce issues. I’ve especially enjoyed watching the Congressman’s crude oil export bill, H.R. 702, pass the House.” – Hanna Beyer, Senior, Texas Christian University
Hanna is a senior at TCU and is originally from Southern California. At TCU, Hanna is working on degrees in Political Science and Writing. Hanna enjoys yoga in her spare time.
“I’ve spent the last two summers interning for large exploration and production oil companies, and interning for Congressman Barton has allowed me to be a part of one of the most instrumental pieces of legislation for the oil and gas industry. I’ve also been able to explore our nation’s capital and all the surrounding cities and states.” – Katie Lingafelter, Senior, Texas Tech University
Katie is originally from Hobbs, NM. She is a first generation college student and will graduate from Texas Tech this fall with a degree in Energy Commerce. Katie is a huge Red Raider fan and enjoys running in her spare time.
“Interning for Congressman Barton has been an invaluable experience. It has been a true privilege working on Capitol Hill, and learning practical skills that will serve me in a professional environment. Regardless of academic major or intended career path, I would highly recommend this Congressional internship to anybody who feels passionate about politics.” – Matt Murphy, Senior, University of Houston
Matt was born and raised in Houston and is currently a senior at the University of Houston. He is majoring Finance and Global Energy, which is a five year program at U of H. Matt is a big Astros and Texans fan, which doesn’t always mesh well with the rest of us in the Barton office.
